Re: A simpler, kinder framework for academic work

Yes, I did consider "simplified" docbook. While fewer elements might seem to be less daunting a prospect for new adopters, docbook is not just large but structurally complex. For example, most (normal) people would think that <blockquote> is just an indentation start/stop tag that contains...

A simpler, kinder framework for academic work

I'm a little frustrated by the scale and complexity of docbook, and especially it's unsuitability for academic work in the humanities and social sciences. I'm a computer guy of 35 years with lots of xml authoring experience, but minimal design and transformation experience - and I don't have time to...

Re: Interesting Little Mystery for a Beginner

Competence is such a marvelous thing. Yes, indeed, removing the namespace declaration from the docbook doc makes the xsl spec function as expected (although the oXygen editor's validator doesn't much like the article element anymore). The question remains as to how to properly refer to a given names...

Interesting Little Mystery for a Beginner

I've tried to write a little XSLT (v 1.0) spec for digging the names of multiple authors out of the info section of a docbook (v5.0) document. I first got a couple little samples working fine. Yet, I just couldn't seem to get the xsl to traverse the list of authors in the docbook document. So, I par...

Re: My first experience with <oXygen/>

Thanks so much for the info. The project settings especially is one I'm going to exploit. One item doesn't seem to work as expected though: "You can disable the tooltip description from Options -> Preferences -> Editor -> Author -- Show caret position tooltip." Those pesky tooltips keep co...

My first experience with <oXygen/>

I'm a professional writer just now authoring new academic material for my master of arts, so I bought <oXygen/> after trying it for few days. As much as I had used other XML-oriented products before (Framemaker+XML, XML Spy, Stylus Studio, Jedit with XML plug-ins) it's hard to believe that you're se...

Docbook Question

I've been messing with Docbook all weekend and I've finally found an XML tool (<oXygen/>, of course) that allowed me to get anywhere at all without extensive research and training. So, now that I can enter valid XML and transform it so easily into HTML and PDF (wow!) I'm wondering if anyone knows ho...
