So you are generating binary output?
In general that's not something you should expect XSLT to do; you may be able to use an extension function or module such as
http://expath.org/spec/file
if your XSLT processor supports it.

values are required to be a sequence of null-terminated strings, terminated by an empty string (\0). So this ends up being a comma separated list of bytes.
