Unfortunately I tried this, but I'm using FOP and the property appears to be ignored. Is there anything I can do as an alternative? Is there a way of determining if a piece of text is likely to exceed the margins? It's allowed at the beginning of fo:block [2]. There's an example in the XSL 1.1 Recommendation [3]. However, fo:initial-property-set is required only for 'extended' conformance [4] and might not be implemented by your particular XSL formatter, so YMMV.
