I want to use a single, short word to express the act of removing duplicates from a node-set. I remember seing the word "de-duplication" used, however it sounds ugly.
It's certainly an ugly word, indeed I cringe every time I hear or use it.
On the other hand, it's an old word, having been used (for example) by librarians for quite some time, to designate an operation that for them is very common well outside an XML/XSLT context. In other words, I've been cringing when I hear it for longer than I've know markup systems.
If I had a good alternative, I'd gladly contemplate using it. Yet this is the word know to many "information professionals" (another term I'd like to do without).
Cheers, Wendell
