how do I create a tree with xslt ( xalan ) I need nodes with same parent to be merged <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?> <STATISTICS> <STATISTIC> <HOST Name="machinei1"/> <SID Name="base2"/> <STATNAME Name="stat 1"/> </STATISTIC> <STATISTIC> <HOST Name="machinei1"/> <SID Name="base2"/> <STATNAME Name="stat 2"/> </STATISTIC> <STATISTIC> <HOST Name="machinei1"/> <SID Name="base2"/> <STATNAME Name="stat 3"/> </STATISTIC> <STATISTIC> <HOST Name="machinei2"/> <SID Name="base4"/> <STATNAME Name="stat 4"/> </STATISTIC> <STATISTIC> <HOST Name="machinei2"/> <SID Name="base4"/> <STATNAME Name="stat 5"/> </STATISTIC> <STATISTIC> <HOST Name="machinei1"/> <SID Name="base1"/> <STATNAME Name="stat 6"/> </STATISTIC> <STATISTIC> <HOST Name="machinei2"/> <SID Name="base4"/> <STATNAME Name="stat 8"/> </STATISTIC> </STATISTICS> I would like something like machine 1 base 1 stat 3 base 2 stat 1 stat 2 stat 3 machine 2 base 4 stat 4 stat 8 regards patrick -----Original Message----- From: David Carlisle [mailto:davidc@xxxxxxxxx] Sent: mercredi 21 septembre 2005 16:24 To: xsl-list@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx Subject: Re: [xsl] Variable construction You say > The variable is a url specified in an external document... but you also say > The variable... > > <xsl:variable name="helpUrl"> > <xsl:text>http://info.uwe.ac.uk/myuwe/myMarks.asp</xsl:text> > </xsl:variable> I can't reconcile these statements (so don't understand your question) Is the variable defined in the stylesheet (in which case it would be better to do <xsl:variable name="helpUrl" select= "'http://info.uwe.ac.uk/myuwe/myMarks.asp'"/> or in an external document (in which case you probably need the document() function) > The text... > > .....If you have any queries, please contact your <a target="_blank" > href="{$helpUrl}">Faculty Office</a> without delay.... By text here I assume you mean stylesheet source, as that isn't a text node it's three text nodes, an element node and an attribute node (that's an attribute value template). The attribute value template will expand to the value of the variable (which appears to be the answer to your question).
