Whoops.  That stylesheet does indeed format dates in English, but it doesn't
use data elements in the stylesheet.  That was something on my to-do list to
make it language-independent... now I suppose I had better do so. (-:

Maria, if your stylesheet contains:

<my:month-names>
  <my:month num="01">janvier</my:month>
  <my:month num="02">fevrier</my:month>
</my:month-names>

You can get "janvier" with:

document('')/*/my:month-names/my:month[@num='01']
