[xsl] Validating and Viewing XSL-FO Output
Subject: [xsl] Validating and Viewing XSL-FO Output From: "CHAUDHURI, Neil" <NCHAUDHURI@xxxxxxx> Date: Wed, 30 Jul 2003 09:17:22 -0400 |
Greetings, all. I was hoping I could tap into your expertise once again. I have written a stylesheet utilizing XSL-FO, and I have confirmed it is well-formed by utilizing Internet Explorer. Now I would like to do two very trivial things: validate my stylesheet and view the document. However, it seems that neither is trivial. I have been told that the former is impossible or at least very hard. That seems strange to me, for although the XSL-FO specification is overwhelming in its size and complexity, it is still XML and a stylesheet either meets the rules of its "parent" schema or it does not. Please offer some clarification on the extent to which XSL-FO can be validated. As for the latter issue, once my document is well-formed, how can I view it? I have tried to utilize X-Smiles (which in turn utilizes FOP I believe) but all I see is a blank window--no error messages or any such helpful things. This probably means that the document is in fact not valid. Is there a way to have X-Smiles be more descriptive? Or more generally what advice would you give for rendering XSL-FO? Thanks so much for your help.
