That reads suspiciously like a Saxon error message. Are you sure you are
using Xalan? The APIs are so compatible that a lot of people don't actually
know which product they are running! Add

<xsl:comment>Produced with <xsl:value-of
select="system-property('xsl:vendor')"/></xsl:comment>

so you can be sure.
