are you _sure_ you want to do that? It's an exceptionally expensive and
strange thing to do.

If you mean to just select the original document in its original order
you want select="/".

A node set, being a set, doesn't have an order so it is never sorted or
unsorted, however the node set you have built has just one member, a
root note. The child of that root node is all the elements you selected
in the order specified.
