Hi Simon, I have been playing (like probably a lot of the poster to this list ;) with this idea before... If you are speaking of a server based XSL transformation I don't see why this couldn't be done expect for performance issues especially if you are using a java based XSLT processor. In this architecture, the operation which is taking most of the cycles is the parsing of the XSLT sheet (which can take several seconds) and is most of the time cached. You have alternative ways of accommodating user preferences in a XML architecture such as using both XSLT and a CSS stylesheet and also storing the page layout in a separate XML file which can be user dependent.
