excluding included comments?

is there any way i can distinguish comments that are brought in to an instance via an external dtd subset, from any other top-level comments in the instance? or is it an all or nothing kind of thing? -mda XSL-List info and archive: http://www.mulberrytech.com/xsl/xsl-list
