[oXygen-sdk] CMS integration: Resolving images

oXygen XML Editor Support support at oxygenxml.com

Hi Pascal,

Radu is out of the office and until he returns I will try to help you.
At what point would you require this type of information? I'm guessing
it's when the URL is being opened by your custom protocol plugin? If
that's the case , a custom protocol plugin only knows the URL it must
open so here is a possible solution.

When the document is opened in the editor you could rewrite all these
references to contain the required information (like language etc.). The
concept if that of URL rewriting. So for a relative reference like:

     "GUID-1BA7EFB7-FE54-4643-8AEA-6A2E6A92BD85"

you could rewrite it in

     "GUID-1BA7EFB7-FE54-4643-8AEA-6A2E6A92BD85#language=en"

This will lead to the following URL being resolved for the image:

"sdl://path/to/GUID-1BA7EFB7-FE54-4643-8AEA-6A2E6A92BD85#language=en"

and the custom protocol plugin will have all the information it needs.

If you take this approach you should take care to update these
references when the attributes they depend on change in the document
(for example if the language changes then the previous reference could
be changed into "GUID-1BA7EFB7-FE54-4643-8AEA-6A2E6A92BD85#language=fr"
). The references should also be rewritten backwards when the document
is saved. This approach can work for all cases 2.1/2.2/2.3.

For 2.2 you could also provide a custom
ro.sync.ecss.extensions.api.AuthorReferenceResolver. You can extend the
default DITA conref resolver:
ro.sync.ecss.extensions.dita.conref.DITAConRefResolver (you'll just have
to add {oxygenInstallDir}.frameworks/dita/dita.jar in your framework)
.The idea is, again, to add in the resolved URL all the information that
the custom protocol handler will need to get to the resource.

http://www.oxygenxml.com/InstData/Editor/SDK/javadoc/ro/sync/ecss/extensions/api/AuthorReferenceResolver.html

For 2.3 you could also provide a custom
ro.sync.ecss.extensions.api.link.LinkTextResolver and make sure that the
built URL contains all the required information in the anchor part. You
can extend the default DITA link resolver:
ro.sync.ecss.extensions.dita.link.DitaLinkTextResolver (you'll just
have to add {oxygenInstallDir}.frameworks/dita/dita.jar in your framework).

It might help us get a better idea about your use case if you could send
us some document samples and describe how the information is composed
fro the reference.

Best regards,
Alex
