Find/Replace ePub files

Postby sadeadu » Wed Jun 23, 2010 4:49 pm

Hi, I'm working with Oxygen to edit xhtml inside the epub files. Is there a way to make a find/replace inside all xhtml documents of that epub at the same time? When making a find/replace in files it seams that it won't search inside the "zipped" epub file.
Thanks!

Hello,

Currently Find/Replace in Files does not look inside archives. We already have this feature request on our issue tracking tool and it will be implemented in a future version of Oxygen. I've added your vote for it.

Please be aware that due to the nature of the epub files which are a highly restricted form of zip files if they are modified in Oxygen they no longer pass the epubcheck validation. To make them valid again they have to be repacked. Like it is mentioned here: http://instantindesign.com/index.php?view=412

Let me know if you need a command line script that repacks the epub files with a single command.

Adrian

Hi Adrian,

Thanks for your answer! (I know it's been a while...) It would be great if you could send me that "command line script that repacks the epub files with a single command".
Thanks again!

Hello,

The command line script is not necessary anymore because we fixed the ePub validity problem in Oxygen. You can edit the files inside the ePub and save them and the ePub will be updated correctly, that is the updated ePub will pass the ePub validity check. Just download and install the latest build of Oxygen 11.2 (build number 2010080212) in order to get this ePub fix.

I'm using oXygen 12 to edit ePubs and run into the same problem on Windows XP. Find/Replace calls across multiple .HTM chapter files at once are either ignored or else oXygen freezes up and I have to force a close from Task Manager.

Hello,

Starting with Oxygen 12.2 Find/Replace in Files also works on EPUB files and other types of ZIP-based archives(ZIP, JAR, ODT, docx, etc). Find/Replace in Files is also available in context(selection) in both the Project view and the Archive Browser view.

Additionally, in Oxygen 12.2 you may also find useful the epubcheck integration which allows you to validate and locate errors in a simple manner directly from the Oxygen GUI. This is available in the Archive Browser: Validate and Check for Completeness toolbar button(the red checkmark toolbar icon).
Working with EPUB

What is new in <oXygen/> XML Editor 12.2
