And to answer my own question (or rather, Google helping to answer my own
question ;-),
via http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms256189.aspx
system-property('msxsl:version') should do the trick (starting up my
Windows XP VM now to verify).
Worth pointing out (from the same link),
"A prefix corresponding to a namespace declaration
"urn:schemas-microsoft-com:xslt" must be in scope for the msxsl:version
property."
