hello.
- about the element() scheme being required:

section 4.2: [...]
third-last paragraph: "XPointers of the forms described in [XPointer Framework] and [XPointer element() scheme] must be supported."
- about the problem testing ft-include2.xsl (by which i think you mean ft-include2.x*m*l):
this works for me, resulting in ultimately including include1.xml. i am using saxonsa-8.8j. what are you using? i found that all xslt 2.0 implementations other than saxon which i have tried so far are highly unsatisfactory in terms of implementation quality (and i am not affiliated with saxonica in any way).
if possible, please cc be on mails to the list, because i am not subscribed to receive all posts individually.
