ck:std-date-string-fmt(if empty($x) then '1961-07-09' else $x) would work, or type the argument to your function as xs:string? the question mark would allow the argument to be an empty sequence (or you could use and allow 0-0r-mpre strings) David ________________________________________________________________________ This e-mail has been scanned for all viruses by Star.
