Yes, exactly that was my misunderstanding of the first post (hate mondays ;))

<!DOCTYPE xsl:stylesheet [
 	<!ENTITY content "<xsl:value-of select='.'/>" >
 ]>
should give you the expected result. (tested with Saxon 8.3)
