I've not tried anything like that, so I can't tell you whether it's possible. However, if it is not, you can put the XML fragment into a file, pass the filename as a parameter, and then get its content with the document function. Is it possible to do this? saxon.exe index.xml index.xsl state="<session><user>test</user></session>" or saxon.exe index.xml index.xsl state="<session><user>test</user></session>" Then somehow in the style sheet access: $state/session/user Thanks Jeremy
