I've not tried anything like that, so I can't tell you whether it's 
possible. However, if it is not, you can put the XML fragment into a file, 
pass the filename as a parameter, and then get its content with the 
document function.

Hi,

I'm using instant saxon 6.5.3 and trying to pass xml as a parameter that
can later be accessed as a nodeset. Is it possible to do this?

saxon.exe index.xml index.xsl
state="<session><user>test</user></session>"

or

saxon.exe index.xml index.xsl
state="&lt;session&gt;&lt;user&gt;test&lt;/user&gt;&lt;/session&gt;"

Then somehow in the style sheet access: $state/session/user
