That would be inefficient as you are repeating the search for
volume/book twice (unless your system rewrites the query, as I'm about
to:

volume/book[chapter/@title[.='monkeys' or . ='buffalo']]

Oh in that case:

volume/book[chapter/@title=('monkeys','buffalo')]
