  does anyone know how to find out whether any of the lowest children in a 
  hierarchy have a particuler attribute??

lowest or lower?


<xsl:if test=".//*[@minimum]"> do something if any descendent has the attribute

<xsl:if test=".//*[not(*)][@minimum]"> do something if any leaf descendent has the attribute
