I tried your expression in a stylesheet, and it gave no errors. I tried a similar expression with a relevant XML source document, and it gave me the expected results. So in order to find the problem you will probably need to be more specific about what result you expected, what the input data was, what your XSL instruction looked like, and what the actual result was.
