Hi Denis,

At 02:07 PM 8/29/2003, you wrote:
Because (I think) my <insert> needs to be replaced by a series of <name>s (*not* replaced by the <extra>), and it's those <name>s that need the numbering, not <insert>.

Or am I missing something?

Ah, well if there's a possibility an insert will be replaced by more than one name, then two passes (as you've done it) is the only sane way.

If there were a one-to-one correspondence between inserts and the elements they'd be replaced by, you could just include them in the count and get the same count.

Cheers,
Wendell
