I simply want to control the prefixing so that its consistent throughout the document. I'm not trying to change the namespace. I'm trying to maintain the same namespace and prefixing across both the source and result documents. And I do not want to introduce extra xmlns:prefix tags into the result content. Expecially if I already have that namespace defined as the default.

PS if you are copying elements _why_ do you want to change their names by changing their namespace? One of the main points about the namespaces mechanism is that elements can be moved from document type to document type while retaining a globally unique name.
