Tim Bray and Norm Walsh have both done a relaxng schema for that, which is fun, allows xhtml insertions pretty neatly so no escaping, and validates nicely as xml. ..... but looking at the history of RSS? I don't think its compromise, its 'NIH', I want this... that.. the other.
