I fixed the previous problem I was having, like so:
<xsl:template match="entry.link">
<xsl:when test="preceding-sibling::entry.link and not(following-sibling::entry.link)">
<i><a href="#{@...}"><xsl:apply-templates/></a>. </i>
</xsl:when>

<xsl:when test="preceding-sibling::entry.link and not(following-sibling::entry.link)">
<i><a href="#{@...}"><xsl:apply-templates/></a>. </i>
</xsl:when>
<xsl:otherwise> <i><a href="#{@...}"><xsl:apply-templates/></a>; </i> </xsl:otherwise> </xsl:choose> </xsl:template>
