We have about 2 dozen different tools for automatically updating a users
desktop. That still doesn't stop the support calls that result because we
"automagically" broke something that was previously working.
If you've ever had to support more than a couple 100 users in a real life
situation you will soon realize that doing *anything* on the client side
that is version specific is asking for headaches. It doesn't matter how
elegant the technology is, not all users can run the latest and greatest
version.
