So two guesses and two answers. A: <General> <x> <Author> <vCard ...> ... </vCard> </Author> </x> </General> B: <General> <x/> <Author> <vCard ...> ... </vCard> </Author> <x/> </General> Now for A the answer is that Author isn't a child of General so <xsl:template match="General"> <xsl:for-each select="Author"> selects nothing. You want select="x/Author" For B the answer is, don't know, looks about right, unless the ... here <xsl:template match="vCard"> ... </xsl:template> evaluates to nothing for some other reason.
