Re: vendor neutral XSL extension namespace ?

And damn the language lawyers, SAXON's <assign> element would be real nice too. I nearly explitly suggested in my original message that assign would be a good candidate for something to _stay_ in a vendor specific extension, but decided that it wasn't really fair to single out saxon in that way:-) While assignment might allegedly be useful in some contexts, I don't really see how something that cuts so far across the design principles of the language could ever really be standardised as part of the language. Being side effect free affects the whole design and flavour of the language. I think if you don't need or want that it is more natural to use a different language, rather than bolt constructs from a different paradigm on top of xsl.
