Clarifiation about the specs

Subject: Clarifiation about the specs

Hi,

I read again the XSL specs (the last December version) and a previous paper
(27 August 1997 paper) and saw that in the latter, there was explicit
mentions of the HTML/CSS flow objects and not any more in the latest specs.
Why? Is there any reasons?

I do not include the section about DSSSL because the formatting objects in
the last specs diverge from dsssl FOs, only the paragraph about HTML/CSS
formatting objects.

I am asking this question because most actual implementations are using
HTML/CSS flow objects and I want to know why the section about HTML/CSS is
no longer present in the latest specs. Is there any intentions to zap
HTML/CSS flow object from the final specs? Is a stupidly forgotten item? In
simple terms: why there is no mentions of HTML/CSS flow objects as part of
the XSL specs?

I need more precisions to write my article about the style sheet subject.
Thanx for the help.

Extract from August 1997 paper:
----------------------

To reduce the initial barriers to adoption, a core set of HTML flow objects
is recommended in addition to the core DSSSL flow objects. The HTML/CSS
formatting model is smewhat different from the DSSSL model, and the
inclusion of the HTML/CSS flow objects will make it possible to use XSL with
HTML and CSS. It simplifies the targeting of HTML as the output format, and
retains consistency of the object model and dynamic behaviors.

The characteristics on the flow objects consist of the sum of the CSS
property set plus the original HTML attributes where the functionality is
not provided by the former. Refer to the HTML 3.2 and CSS specifications for
more information.
