If it just provides a significantly easier to write/maintain alternative
for 50%, that would be more than sufficient to justify it, in my opinion.

Java can't do everything that C++ can do. But those simplifications make it
more portable,
and less bug-prone. Sometimes a significantly smaller tool _is_ better,
when it's a better match to a specific problem domain. You don't have to
immediately take over the world to be a success; taking over one country at
a time is more than sufficient.
