One other thought:  suppose that rather than 
providing Google with original content, the 
index was locally generated and submitted 
in a standard format.  Wouldn't that be 
something like a locally generated topic map 
that is published as the sole interface to 
the content?  Is that your idea, Alan? As 
long as the code is inspectable (no compiled 
components), this is palatable.

That would at least make some of my objections 
go away by ensuring that whatever Google sees, 
I grant permission for that.  Again, I would 
want to be my own ISP and so will anyone else 
as things evolve.  This would push the power 
back to the author/owners rather than continuing 
toward a web where a few bigCo/govs can decide 
what anything is worth and what is right.
